Is Billie Eilish overrated?

People give her too much credit, claiming she's a “prodigy” when she wouldn't be where she is without her brother, who has influenced and contributed to her sound, lyrical content, and style. She grew up in privilege; her family has ties to the industry. Some of her songs are catchy, which is what pop is supposed to be, but she screams of contradictions (doesn't want to be sexualized, yet she sexualizes herself while performing touching herself sexually; she has claimed she's always like performing and all eyes on her, yet complains about the fame she now has) and immaturity (when she won Billboard's woman of the year, after others gave impactful speeches about serious issues, she accepted her award like “wow! I can't believe I won. Man all those speeches were too long!” And people excuse it bc “she's just a kid”). She's a “pretty” white girl that's “so deep and dark and different” and she gets a pass by society, bc she makes all her corporate sponsorships money which then makes her money. I think people need to stop looking at her like she's doing all of it alone and that's why she's so good, when it's the fact that her and her brother are doing it together. There would be no Billie Eilish without her brother's music industry background. And that's the truth.
Having listened to popular music from the 1920s through to today’s fare…
Yes, Billie Eilish is super overrated. or i think the bette term is overhyped.
Now, before all the Billie Eilish fans get pissed off I just want to mention that I liked three….. of her songs which are Ocean eyes (her best song), Bad Guy, and Bury a friend.
I heard her 2019 album won a lot of grammies so I went and checked it.
seriously I heard this album, and the first thing I said was “That’s it?” That was honestly pretty underwhelming.
I think the reason why Billie Eilish resonates with young fans is that she has “depressing” lyrics and since the majority of young fans are depressed, they find billie Eilish relatable.
but heres the problem: Her fans think having depression makes you seem cool.
But its not, depression is never cool. Plus, young kids sure like a lot of autotune and people like her music because it’s relatable and edgy.
seriously look at these lyrics from I love you
and Bury a friend
I listen to these lyrics and I fall asleep. In fact, whenever I want to fall asleep, I listen to her album.
For me personally, her lyrics arent that deep or personal, compared to people like Vince Staples or NF. Plus, I really hate how she’s one of those “woke” Celebrities.
Now, I dont have a problem with people being political, but Billie Eilish says that she’s “oppressed” and that she’s super sad all the time. And look, I totally sympathize with Billie Eilish being depressed because I dont know what other people think.
But I really dont like how Billie Eilish is somehow an “expert” on life. She’s two years younger than me, she was born to a rich family, she had really close ties with the music industry, she was the child of talented musicians, and her brother is a really skilled songwriter and musician as well.
Look, I think Billie eilish is extremely overhyped. I look at her lyrics, and I dont see how they’re deep even when I look at Genius Lyrics. Her soundtrack and songs are pretty derivitive, and everytime I hear her songs I fall asleep. For me personally, billie eilish is extremely overrated.
